Hi Lynda
How is lovely Honey doing today? Has your vet discussed the possibility of Doxycycline or another antibiotic with you? Have you had any more thoughts about whether you would prefer to add or substitute the azathioprine and cyclosporine?
As for the oxyglobin. This is a difficult one and certainly it is an option when there is no other. Generally though, whole blood is preferable to oxyglobin, not least because it lasts a lot longer. Oxyglobin does not increase the haemoglobin in the system, but increases the body’s ability to transport oxygen. Personally I would opt for whole blood over oxyglobin when possible, as long as it can be cross matched. Oxyglobin is also extremely expensive. From memory, it was around £250 a bag, whereas it was actually cheaper to have a blood transfusion.
Anyway, am thinking of you and Honey a lot and hope she is still perky and you see some good results very soon.
Lots of love, Mary and Mable x
Hi Lynda – keeping up with the posts, company still here. Wondering too, about Honey today?
Love and hugs,
Linda and Sadie
Hi all -sorry for the silence…. I am in France (my partner Consuelo is staying at home doing the nursing!). Honey is now on cyclosporine, and is phasing out the Imuran. Her last PCV was 21 so it hadn’t dropped too much in the first few days after the transfusion. Consuelo says she is tolerating the cyclosporine OK so far, and is reasonably bouncy – although running upstairs soon tires her out! She is having another blood test on Friday, though I guess that would be early days for any response to the cyclosporine.
Many thanks for your thoughts and good wishes, Lynda, Consuelo, Honey and Dora xx
Hi Lynda
Really good news on the cyclosporine & her PCV holding reasonably well – glad you have Consuelo to look after your girls. Wishing you luck for the blood test tomorrow. As you say, it may be a bit to early to see any reticulocytes or a stable PCV – but you never know.
Where abouts are you in France? We live near Montpon-Menesterol – it would be rather a bizarre coincidence if you are near us as it’s a big country! Worzel & Ollie said they would love to meet you, of course.
Anyway, keep us posted Lynda – we are ALL wishing the best for Honey
Love, Sheena, Phil & the boys xxxx
Lynda, I’m glad Honey is holding stable, but we want some reds Honey!!! Everything crossed for your next test, but it is early days for the cyclo still, but here’s hoping that it and the other additions punch it up a bit.
Reasonably bouncy sound nice to me.

Hello Lynda. Great to hear from you! It’s so nice to hear that your partner, Consuelo, is able to help with Honey. That is a tremendous plus.
As all have said here, and it seems you know too – it may take a bit more time for the cyclosporine to kick in, but you never know. Really, really glad she’s on it. Good luck Honey, on the blood work tomorrow. We will all be anxious to hear the results.
Love and hugs, Linda and Sadie
