Hi Lynda
This is a really tough call and I totally understand your hesitation. I’m not sure which vaccine is used in the UK but the vet should be able to tell you whether it is live or not. Patrice has given you loads of useful information to consider. How has Bella been with other vaccines? I can only imagine what a difficult decision this is for you after all you have been through.

Hi Anna
This is wonderful to hear – way to go Jackie! 44 is great news.
Don’t worry about the skin – the dry, flakiness is very common after pred & so are the black patches. Worzel was exactly the same & it’s nothing to worry about at all. It will fade, but I find as soon as the sun is out, Worzel’s patches go black again. Worzel also had baldy bits where his coat was really thin & tatty. He still has a bald patch on his leg where they shaved him for the drip – you can see clearly it in the photo of him in the slideshow at the right hand side from when he broke his toe (plastic bag on rear foot!). This also is discoloured – it took an age to heal up & was sore & weeping until we got him off the pred for a few weeks. Apart from that he looks just like he did before the IMHA, but it did take time to settle. So don’t worry – it’s most likely to be the pred side effects. Whoopee for Jackie’s brilliant recovery!
Love & hugs

Hi Terri
You certainly haven’t let Koda down at all – thanks to your determination to find out what was the matter, he is getting the right treatment & is getting better. It sounds like he is regaining his strength which is wonderful news. Good luck with the blood test results – we will be thinking of you.

Patrice is absolutely right – if you can give us more information, we can certainly help you. But we need as much information as possible – please tell anything that you think might be relevant. Many of us have struggled with our dogs & diarrhoea & it could even indicate the cause of the IMHA in the first place. Did she have this problem before diagnosis? Mycophenolate mofetil causes bad diarrhoea in many cases & some trials of the drug for dogs with IMHA have been stopped in the past for this very reason, but we can’t be sure that this is Hope’s problem.
I have found pumpkin (& sweet potato) very useful for diarrhoea with my dog – it’s certainly worth a try as soon as you can get some.
Hoping you can tell us more

I have entered you both as a team in the next Olympic three-legged race. You have a good chance between you as you are indeed a right pair.
Seriously, you need to elevate your ankle/foot, frozen peas (or rice!) is good too – good thinking. Strapping is very effective for sprains, but get a professional to do that for you if you can. If not, a good strong support bandage from the chemist. If you think there is a possibility it could be broken, please get an x-ray. Ankles are a real sod to get healed properly, so rest it – that’s an order!

PS, I didn’t laugh, honest.
