Eric, I agree with Vally. I think your dog is oversuppressed too. Forgive me for saying this, but I also spent a fortune on Sadie ($5,000.00) at Blue Pearl. They did save her life as she needed two transfusions. BUT, had I not spent the extra $150.00 with Dr. Dodds, Sadie would not be here, even with Blue Pearl. I feel the thyroid meds and weaning the cyclosporine were two of the best recommendations, both from Dr. Dodds. She looks at every dog differently, as she should. Many vets lump them all together (not good).
Sadie started on the thyroid medication to promote her RBC. She is not hypothyroid. She did not become hyperthyroid on the medication either. She simply rose in her RBC count and has continued to stay at a healthy RBC count. Finally. Thyroid meds are very inexpensive. Wish I had known…….
Any tests run and their results, by any vet, any speciality vet hospital, belong to YOU. You paid for them. Verbally telling you the results does not work. Simply tell them you are keeping copies in a file and they should either e-mail them or give you a physical copy. I use a great ap called DropBox. My vet e-mails each and every test result and I file it in DropBox, i.e., Sadie’s CBC 12-15-16, etc. DropBox is a free ap and to me, awesome. I even do this now with my own doctor visits and any lab work.
Please don’t give up on Torrie. If she’s barking and wanting to play, that is incredible. If her PCV/hematocrit is coming up and/or stable, she has such a great chance.
Sending supportive hugs,
Linda and Sadie

Run free Bingo, precious boy. You will be in my heart forever and always.
Vally, you are the most loving, gentle and inspirational person ever. Your advice here is spot on and given with insight and diplomacy.
You are one of the best fur moms ever. So glad Bingo found you.
Love you, dear friend. Linda
Hi Marilyn. I am so very sorry you and Cuppie are dealing with this disease.
I am out of town, so I apologize If I sound short. Please read Sadie’s story under “Our Stories” and you will understand what Erin and Sara are Saying. Had it not been for Dr. Dodds and this forum, Sadie would not be here today. Five years after onset, and lots of input from Dr. Dodds and this forum, she is still around. A different pup, but loves life and hanging in. 😊
Please consult with Dr. Dodds. I will check in later.
Warmest regards,
Linda and Sadie
Hello Eric. I am so sorry to read all this about Torrie. This is definitely a stinking disease.
My dog Sadie’s story is under ‘Our Stories’ although I have not updated in way too long. We all here, have lived it and know the grueling affects.
In reading through, I am thinking two things. First, agree, if you can manage, the consultation with Dr. Dodds is monumental. It is pretty much a one time fee and she is there for you. She has helped me so much with Sadie. Second, has anyone suggested weaning the cyclosporine first? I did that with Sadie. It did not work to wean the prednisone first with her, as with Torrie.
Again, I am so sorry. You have your hands full both emotionallly and financially.
Warmest regards,
Linda and Sadie
Hi Paula. I am so very sorry you and Maya are going through this. I know what you’re going through, my Sadie has actually relapsed four times. The one before this last one, #3 (I caught #4 just in time), she was in the bospital and had two transfusions. It was horrible.
It’s a lonely place, going through all this. But you are not alone. Please know that.
Vally’s suggestion to get in touch with Dr. Dodds is spot on. She is incredible. Between her and this forum, Sadie is still alive today and (knock on wood), doing okay.
Sadie will be on a maintenance dose of prednisone (5 ‘MG’s) daily for life. Every time I try to get her too low, she relapses. Not worth it. Poor seeet girl has a gall bladder mucus plug and is supposed to be a walking time bomb. She would not make it through surgery, so we treat and treat and treat, medically, and hope this works. She is on Ursodiol, Denamarin and extra milk thistle, daily. I cook organic for her. I give her PetTinic (swear by this) organic turmeric, kale, green beans, carrots, blueberries and apples (cooked, due to gall bladder). All that with either turkey, fish, chicken and occasionally, beef. She is also on Krill Oil and a probiotic (both human, although I have used Nutramax probiotic, good).
Maya is doing okay now, other than the bruising? Sadie is a rare case and so is Maya. I know what you mean about not wanting them to suffer. I feel the same as you and Vally and everyone else here, actually. But it does sound like Maya is rebounding.
Please ask me any questions. Sadie’s initial story is on the site, but not the last two relapses. We know what you’re going through and here for you.
Please do consult with Dr. Dodds. No vet gets this stinking disease like her. She’s amazing.
Sending our love and huge, hang-in-there hugs,
Linda and Sadie
