It is a lonely journey with this disease – no-one’s ever heard of it & they are not usually very interested. But we are all here to help – you know that. The relief of finding other people who had experienced IMHA was huge for me too. You must tell us if you are worried about anything – a problem shared & all that! It’s really hard work looking after them – exhausting mentally & physically.

Emily sounds like a right little thief – that must have been a terrible experience with the ibuprofen – thank goodness you got her to the vets so quickly. Goodness, you need to keep a close eye on her, little monkey!

I am still worried about the Vitamin K (my personal opinion is that it should be stopped immediately) because I don’t know why she has been given it- it’s only meant to be used for the first few days of rodenticide poisoning until clotting time is back to normal. My big worry is that Emily will become at risk from clotting – we don’t want that as clots are life-threatening. Our dogs are very often at risk from abnormal clotting because of the IMHA & many actually need anti-clotting medications. Do you feel you could discuss this with your vet OK? I am quite happy to help you with that if there is something you don’t understand or maybe help with a list of questions for them? Let me know.

I know you said it was tricky, but we really need to know what is happening in her blood, so badly need the blood test/smear results. Sorry to be such an old nag – I do worry, you know! And you & Emily are very important to us all.

I’m sorry to hear that you are going through this very difficult time, though it sounds as though Ella is doing really well and making great progress. I’m sorry to hear she is having a rough time on the prednisolone, and I hope that she will respond well to the tapering.

As a cat owner, I’m not very knowledgeable about travelling with animals (although my cat Mable has now been to Cambridge and Oxford so she thinks she is very clever) but I think the others have given sensible advice. It’s a tough call for sure, but it looks like there are options in terms of staying closer to home, finding somewhere suitable for Ella to stay, or making sure you are able to research nearby vets etc.

Please give Ella some get well cuddles from us. I’m so pleased to hear she is going in the right direction

I’m sorry I’m a little late in saying welcome, but welcome and I am glad you have found us. I’m sorry to hear that dear Emily is going through this, but wonderful that she seems to be on the right track and feeling a little better.

Out of interest, when did she eat the ibuprofen? Was it recent or a long while ago? Some medications can trigger various types of anaemia.

All of us have been through this and understand how hard it is. I think we probably all understand the feelings that we cannot talk about it to others, that we are crazy for spending all that money etc etc. Please know that you never need to feel that way here. We are all devoted to our pets and totally understand.

Congratulations on your new job! I am sure it is quite challenging starting a new job and caring for Ashki, but I hope you are managing to settle in a bit now. I know you must be feeling anxious about the dip in PCV, but as Sheena and Vally said, if he is well in himself that is a good sign, and hopefully it is nothing more than a little blip which will have gone up again by next week.

I’m sorry I am late in welcoming you to the site, and that you are going through this with your (very beautiful) Molly. I’ve just been reading through the threads to see how she is getting on, and it looks as though she is doing really well!

I’m also in the UK, and my cat Molly had a rare form of IMHA in 2013. It is a tough journey but everyone here has been through it and understands how you might be feeling. It sounds like you have a great vet who is willing to explain things and talk things through with you, and from reading your posts I sense a quiet determination, which is wonderful! I’m really pleased to read you will be getting advice from Dr Dodds too.

Please give Molly some gentle ear rubs from us and tell to keep up the great work. I hope you continue to get good results on Tuesday. Please do keep us posted on the aspirin issue too.

I’m very relieved to hear Emily’s PCV is 25 – excellent news. I have to agree that she is the most cute little thing – you have TWO gorgeous pups there!

Linda has explained everything beautifully & we’re all glad to hear things are improving. Writing a list of questions is a really good suggestion – I always used to come home thinking I’d forgotten to ask something. If you could get any blood test/blood smear results, that would be great too.
