Hi, I just wanted to say hello and how beautiful Honey is! I’m very new to all this too, less than 2 weeks in, but everyone here is a FANTASTIC support and know so so much! I really hope Honey will hang in there and regenerates soon! She’s so beautiful! Good luck and you’re both in my thoughts! Xxxxx
Hi Lynda
Glad to hear Honey is a perky girl – nice to hear that the transfusions are keeping her that way. Wishing you loads of luck for tomorrow’s blood test – what a nightmare getting hold of Dr Dodds though. It will be worth it in the end, I am certain – she is such a lovely lady & she has helped so many of us with great advice. Let us know how things are going. Here’s wishing for some reticulocytes very soon.
Cuddles galore from

Hi Lynda. Yes siree, live the internet – sorry you had trouble getting through to Dr. Dodds, but it sounds like you two have thing rolling now. She’ll help you greatly. Way to jump on that – you’ll be so glad you did.
Also, glad honey’s feeling chipper today. Blood work tomorrow – please keep us posted with results.
I will be thinking of you both. Sending lots of hugs and love,
Linda and Sadie
Hi Mary – yes, it is was horrible to lose Meg. But, she had lived to 17 – having had a major cerebellar stroke at the age of 13. Intensive care, followed by lots of TLC and nursing, and she was back on her feet – literally – in no time….and able to do long walks for quite a long time after. Hers was a success story. I have to remember that, even though the grief gets me from time to time. And right now, we have to focus on Honey – and on Dora, too, who is feeling a bit left out!
Hi Lynda
My goodness, Meg really was incredible – you are obviously the best dog Mum possible to get her through this & 17 is wonderful. It doesn’t matter how old they are though – we still miss them so terribly. I am glad to “meet” another greyhound & lurcher nutcase like us! I hope her story will cheer up Tara & Diablo immensely, as Diablo has suffered a couple of debilitating vestibular attacks recently.
I know what you mean – poor old Ollie was a bit miffed as he got left at home a lot when we took Worzel to the vets (every day or every other day at one point!) & the poor lad thought he had done something wrong. He is a very quiet, shy boy anyway, so he needs a bit of special attention. Worzel is the gregarious cheeky one, but they are best mates despite the vast difference in character.
Here in France, a lot of people are starting to adopt Spanish greyhounds from a group who have set themselves up here to save greyhounds from the terrible abuse they get (we won’t go into that as it’s too upsetting) & our vets were saying they see a lot more of them these days. That is nice to hear! I’ve just passed some information on anaesthetics to someone who has recently adopted one (sadly very, very timid), just in case he ever needs it.
Anyway, good luck with Dr Dodds & the blood tests etc. Sending you best wishes from my hounds to yours, love
Sheena & the boys
Feeling despondent again. Her PCV was 22 after the last transfusion, a week ago, but today the vet said it was 10 …. :-(
We have started her on thyroxine and B12 supplements, following Jean Dodds advice….. but I am so desperately worried that she might not make it. It doesn’t help that it’s a holiday weekend here, so the vets will be closed till Tuesday…… just keep hoping she will be OK.
Needless to say, she is now very subdued again. She came out to greet me when I got home today, but won’t come upstairs… :-(
Hi Lynda
I am sorry to hear about Honey’s drop in PCV. What have the vets suggested in terms of another transfusion? Did Dr Dodds suggest any change in her immunosuppressant medication? Good news that you have started the B12 & thyroxine. I will keep everything crossed that these give her the boost she needs.
Does Honey see an internal medicine specialist? I’m not sure where they are in your area but am more than happy to have a look if you need some help with this. Does your vet run an out of hours service? How was she diagnosed? Did she have a bone marrow biopsy?
This is a nasty disease and it is such a rollercoaster for you, but there IS hope and you are doing all the right things for your precious girl.
What a wonderful story about Meg. Definitely a success story! Try not to worry too much about Dora. Mable was also rather left out when Molly was ill, but amazingly she seemed to understand. Animals astound me with their sensitivity.
Much love and hugs to you and Honey (and Dora of course).
