- Dora has a new friend
Yes, we still see Honey (and Meg) everywhere. Yesterday, it had been a month since Honey passed….. it feels like an eternity and like a split second at the same time.
Patrice spoke in a message about thinking of them as constellations. I’m not an expert on constellations, but I do think of Honey as a shooting star – burning very bright but for a sadly short time.
Shona is bouncing around everywhere, chewing whatever she can get her teeth into, and digging up my precious plants so she can bury bones…… she blotted her copy book last week when I forgot Golden Rule Number One of going for walks while we were in a forest in Wales. I forgot to look at the map to remind myself where the forest paths come out to sheep fields. Gulp. I came round a corner (yes she is off lead now – OK MOST of the time!) to see her shimmy under the gate. Just stood and looked, till I called her, the sheep promptly ran off, and Shona thought that looks like fun. Got her back, and I was very shaken, knowing what can happen when farmers are around (and thinking of the poor sheep). Lesson learned. Saturday’s walk in same forest kept strictly to forest paths, and she was as good as gold.
I’m about to leave for Germany with the horses, so Consuelo will have all the fun of Shona-care for a week. Dora is doing her best to put her in her place (Shona that is, not Consuelo!!).
Will keep you all updated. Thanks for the messages – it really lifts us up to know that everyone cares and understands what we have been going through.
xx
Forgot to mention the sprained ankle….. how do you teach bouncy youngsters to pay attention to humans as well as their canine pals? She ran into the back of my legs and over I went :-(
Hi Lynda
It’s good to hear from you and I am glad that Shona is keeping you on your toes (or off them – so sorry to hear about the ankle!) Yes, I totally understand what you say about it seeming like ages ago, and yet a split second. I love your thought about Honey as a shooting star, and I can relate to it totally.
Isn’t it awful when they go after sheep? I remember this happening once with a Border Collie my step-mum had. Well I was powerless to stop her and I was terrified (I’d been warned about farmer’s rights). I’ll never forget the bizarre noise she made chasing the poor things! Fortunately no harm done!
Have a wonderful time in Germany and do keep in touch. We all think of you so often.
Much love to you, Consuelo and the girls,
Mary x
