Well done Ivan! This is such good news & we love to hear about a bit of butt kicking on here. Glad to hear you are continuing with the doxy – that is good stuff for killing off tick diseases – I presume his neutrophils/WBCs are down a bit? Worzel was on doxy for about 5 weeks to kill off the ehrlichiosis – that is one nasty bug which can easily hide itself away.

We found the milk thistle & Sam-E brought Worzel’s liver enzymes down quite quickly – a couple of weeks & he had dropped back into the normal. I started it very early on in his treatment, thanks to advice from folks on here, so it might take Ivan a bit longer as he has been on the drugs for quite a while. My French specialist said it was a brilliant idea & he would now start recommending it to other IMHA owners, not that there are many of them around here! We are just very unlucky our dogs got this evil thing.

So good to hear your patience & determination have paid off at last. Regenerative is the best news & I’m really happy for you & Dewey!

I certainly would not risk doing any reductions yet as he is is not in normal range. I would also strongly advise you to tell Dr Dodds about what is happening – let her tell you what to do on the reduction front. She will be thrilled to hear the good news too! I completely agree with what everyone else has said. The prednisone should be reduced slowly & carefully, but you should not start this until Dewey’s PCV has been normal for a few tests.

Worzel also had bone marrow failure & we only started the pred reduction after he was back in the normal range for a couple of weeks. We left the other drug (in our case, azathioprine) well alone – continued with the same dose – until he was completely off the pred. The atopica (cyclosporine) does not have the nasty side effects that the pred has, so there is good reason for lowering the pred as much as possible first. This is the usual way to do things, but there are always exceptions of course – as Vally says, can you remind us what dose of atopica Dewey is on? If he is on a higher dose than the maintenance dose needed, Dr Dodds may ask you reduce it. The last thing any of us want is a relapse – it means the treatment has to go on much longer because you have to go back up to full dose sometimes. No fun. Take things slowly.

Taking no risks is the name of the game with this disease. You also have to continue to be patient too – it’s really hard, I know!

You have been a really great Mum to Dewey – I am so proud of you & how you’ve battled your way through everything. You should be proud of yourself too, Marla. Keep up the great work!

Oh Tamara – you should send this video in to Funniest Videos – Ashki would win, paws down!!!? This is an incredible tribute to is ‘adorable ness’ (is that a word???). He has such a besutiful, playfu l personality. That tail looks as though it’s going to wag right off his body! Way cute! He absolutely loved that. Yes, a keeper and a mood enhancer, for sure.!!

It’s great to read that Ashki is hanging in here. You have done such an awesome job. Your allegence to his health (and heart) is an incentive to all fur parents. This has been such a long and intense road for you and Ashki. And here he is – he looks crazy happy and beautiful!

Glad this has helped – should have put in on earlier – sorry. The problem for me was that Tylan is not available here in France & I absolutely didn’t want him on metronidazole long term. So, I mooched around trying to find a bona fide, safe alternative. This was when I came across this great site:

Amazon did not deliver to France then, so a very kind lady sent me some from the USA. Since then, via Amazon, the company has started to deliver it to France, thank goodness.

I am still in contact with my wonderful vet in the UK, but she was unable to source Tylan from any of their wholesalers, so anyone in the UK might find Amazon the best bet. Although Tylan is not actually approved by the FDA for dogs, it is a discretionary item that vets can prescribe, so you shouldn’t have a problem in the USA.

I can’t tell you how impressed I am with this product – it really is fantastic.

Jen & Anna – it’s so nice to hear from you both & to hear the babies are doing fine. Keep in touch both of you – we miss you! Glad the Tylan worked for you too – let’s hope everyone with dogs with tummy troubles can benefit from our experiences.
