Joe, I am thrilled to hear Nauset is doing well! The fact that she is more ‘rowdy’ and acting like a lab is fantastic. She will beat this, there is no doubt in my mind!
Best wishes,
Brigitte
We have to keep her quiet and caged if she gets frisky. She will have a heartworm test on March 6. If she is positive, we eventually syart over. Nauset stop needs to be qiiet and caged toll March 31.
Thanks fo .caring.
Joe, I am so pleased to see an update on here from you . It must be so hard for you going through all this with Nauset but she sounds like she is doing well and she couldn’t be in better hands. You will always miss Dunes and there is no “fast-forward” button for the grieving process so don’t give yourself a hard time. Take care of yourself.

This is wonderful to read!!! A Happy Valentine’s indeed!!! Nauset is so fortunate to have you in her life. You are doing all the right things medically and your love for her will heal her emotionally. Congratulations!!
Love, Linda and Sadie
Heard today that Nauset still has microfiliea. Waiting for the vet’s call. Going to start all over- I believe. Disheartening to say the least. I really haven’t been truly happy since losing Dunes. I love you all. Hope your pups are doing well. I will pray for everryone. God bless.
Hi dear Joe
That is not what you wanted to hear, I know, but at least that is the “baby” stage of the heartworm – not much comfort just yet, but at least the adult ones seem to have been killed off. I just had a quick read of
and it says that dogs return after treatment of the adult heartworm for another (different) treatment to kill the baby microfilariae off, so I would guess this is the normal chain of events.
Also http://www.heartwormsociety.org/pet-owner-resources/canine-heartworm.html
says about 2 separate treatments as well.
Try not to get too downhearted, Joe – you know we are all thinking of you & crossing everything for Nauset. She can beat these parasitic nasties – she is lucky to have you & so are we. Dunes is watching over you & Nauset right now – I’m sure of that.
Loads of love as always

Good article Sheena.
Yes Joe, it sounds like this is all part of the normal treatment. That approximately 1 month after the treatment to kill the heartworms, the dog returns to hospital for treament for the baby heartworms. Hopefully this is what it is.
How is Nauset acting? Very very best of luck.
Praying for you all.
Love Vally & Bingo.
Hi Joe,
what a nasty disease! The treatment will test your patience, here you go again, one day at a time. You and Nauset have come so far, you will beat this and it will be all worth it in the end. Poor Nauset must be used to it by now to be kenneled up. Can you do brain games with her? Teach her little tricks to at least keep her mind active? What a lucky girl to have such a dedicated man beside her! Dunes is watching over the two of you.
Best wishes,
Brigitte
