Hi Anne, I’m sorry you’ve had to find us too. What is your boy’s name or did I miss it?
I know when Bingo was in hospital, he refused to eat the whole time. He was in for 9 days and in last few days they were force feeding him with a syringe to get something into him. They weren’t too worried about the food though. Once the prednisone kicks in, you have a monster on your hands.
I have no experience with respiratory illness but the frantic fear you’re going through now, yes I, and everyone here, understands that completely.
I also suggest you get in contact with Dr Dodds at hemopet.ord Everybody who has ever dealt with her has always been impressed, not only with her expertise, but her kindness.
I also feel very overwhelmed whenever I’m at the vets (total wimp here!!!). I always ask for copy of results and simply say, it helps me to cope if I can understand what’s happening. If you can get a copy of results, use the Urgent Advice at the top and you can scan them in. Patrice and some of the others (not me) are brilliant at understanding them and can help you to understand what they mean too.
It’s good that the transfusions are keeping your boy stable. That way they can get the respiratory issue under control and hopefully you’ll have your boy home soon.
Big hugs.

Clara, with the slippery elm cocktail, are you using aloe vera and chlorophyll in it? You need to be careful with the aloe vera as it is only the actual gel which can be used, the outer part of the plant is toxic and chlorophyll will reduce the effectiveness of cyclosporine. I can’t remember if Hector is on cyclosporine.
With Bingo whenever he has a few days of particularly runny poos, I do a simple version of a teaspoon of slippery elm powder in a glass of water and cook until revolting and add a baby syringe full to each meal. I don’t use any of the other ingredients and toss out after 5 days.
Love Vally & Bingo (who doesn’t know he got it the other day :)
Clara, can you get the herbal any quicker? Maybe email back again and clarify if it’s better for Hector to be without for the few days rather than using the Albon.
Pet Tinic is an iron supplement, I think the other is more a general vitamin supplement. Bingo gets Pet Tinic and also a supplement (from Aussie) which sounds very similar to the ingredients of the Missing Link, so I don’t think it’s a problem to use them together but can someone clarify.

Hope, my vet wanted to stop the sucralfate when we got down to about 10mg pred (from memory – which is not trustworthy). I resisted and we bargained it down from 3 times a day (in the beginning), to twice a day and then once a day. It was stopped completely when we got down to lower doses still though. I believe it’s because of the aluminum in the drug, although it is considered a “safe” drug to use, even long term.
