Anne-Marie, I can only image how heartbreaking to think Bilbo is going home, but to have this set back with the breathing. Personally I think the vet did the right thing to keep him in for the extra day just to be on the safe side. I’m glad they are looking at their costings too to help a bit.
His RBC is a fabulous number and it sounds like his little body is getting into gear and getting things sorted out, so that’s really good.
The pet owner’s consultation fee with Dr Dodds is $100, so she’s incredibly reasonable and the Online Consultation Request is very simple. If you prefer your vet to contact her, perhaps ask your vet to contact Hemopet directly.

Tourner la page, Nicole est derrière l’arbre and ouvrir la fenêtre. That’s what I can say in French with a beautiful French accent. Of course, I don’t get to use those words in too many sentences.
Hope, I get the problem with asking for reports when they make it plain they don’t think you need them. They have your dog in their hands and you don’t want to upset the apple cart. The reports are never offered to me, but I do ask for them, and they’re given. The fact that I have to ask every time, though, makes it clear to me, that that’s not the norm. I’ve actually tried asking the receptionist to avoid this, but reception tells me I have to speak to the vet. They can’t do anything without the vet’s okay. Blagh blagh blagh.
It’s also very very political here with vets and specialists. My guy by continuing to look after Bingo has put at risk referrals from my local vet. I have some issues with the local vets and the specialist has just kept quietly looking after Bingo there for me. The way it’s supposed to work here is that once they’re not critical, they’re supposed to be handed back to the referring vet for continued treatment.
When Bingo has another non-related problem, I’ll usually run it past the specialist and say, “Bingo’s got some loose teeth. I was going to take Bingo to Annandale for them to check, but if surgery is suggested, is it safe do you think?” The specialist invariably has a look in Bingo’s mouth and has said “if it’s not bothering him, I’d probably leave them alone. If they become infected or seem to be causing pain, well then, yes perhaps get them taken out.”.
When I go to the local place (Annandale), I usually say, I’ve kept him at the specialist as he’s had several relapses and we’re still trying to get him to his lowest dosage – it’s all true, but…..

Roger, a lady I see in the park all the time, her dog has eating issues. Her dogs was just not eating anything for no apparent reason. I’m sure they read the stress off us too every time we put a bowl of food down anticipating the worse.
She began taking a bag of food to the park with her. She’d toss a ball, her dog would chase it, bring it back, and be rewarded with a handful of food. She became eating all of her food in this way. It broke the habit of not wanting to eat her food and enjoying it.
Perhaps, you can take some food on your walk, to try and disassociate the food with being associated with “food” time. Just a thought.
Secondly, I don’t see any problem with the bun. Let her eat what she will for now. When she’s better – watch out Dixie!

Anne-Marie, did you use the Upload Your Photo, on the right? If you did, Patrice will have received notification and she actually puts them on, so they don’t appear instantly.
I checked out the link though and love the pictures of Bilbo, Sam and Penny.
Many very good meaning people suggested to me that I should let Bingo go and I was ready to listen to them, seeing Bingo at his very worst. I was convinced it was cruel to keep Bingo going when he was so bad. It was actually his vet that convinced me Bingo wasn’t in pain, just feeling very tired. He convinced me to wait a few days in the hope that the meds would kick in. So I’m very very grateful to my vet.
I’m so glad the breathing is better and his chest is clear. That should make things so much better for him. The improvement in the reticulocyte count is great news too.
Post the results. Sheena lives in France. She is also amazing with results so I doubt the French will be a problem. Sheena you know everythign don’t you :) You can check out the glossary at the top, AIHA Terms. It has heaps of information that has been very well sourced.
I’m so glad Bilbo is looking better. Onwards and upwards Bilbo and lets go home.
