- Zorro is Relapsing
Hope everyone has been well, this place provided such comfort and great help when we first encountered AIHA back in 2016.
Unfortunately the day has come… Zorro is now relapsing although I’m much prepared this time around. Nevertheless still worried because he is now almost 13 years old. 2 days ago he woke up lethargic and showed no interests in food (very unlike him), so I immediately took him to the doctor. His HCT was 17% so the doctor did a manual and PCV came back 32%. Today he seemed much weaker so I took him to the emergency room and test came back 17.5%, he’s getting blood transfusions. Truthfully I’m blaming myself that I should’ve taken him to the emergency room sooner but was fooled by the number 32%. Emergency room doctor said that could’ve been because he was dehydrated but we’ll never know.
He’s since been put on the same drugs:
-Dexamethasone injection 1.2 cc twice a day
– Atopica 50mg twice a day
– Sucralfate
– Plavix ( to prevent blood clots)
– Denamarin
And this time I requested thyroxine but was given levothyroxine, is that going to be a problem since it’s not Thyro-Tabs?
Hopefully he can beat this again! I’m aware that 2nd time is more aggressive and harder to treat. I wonder if there is any new protocol or anything I’m missing?
