- Split: Nauset
Hi Joe
Wonderful to hear that Nauset is feeling better (and destructive!). She sounds like she had a great time! I did laugh I’m afraid, and laughed a lot about Sprockett. My goodness. We had a Border Collie who did used to eat a lot of odd (sometimes unmentionable) things but fortunately there was no destruction on such a level! Sheena – hats off to you and Phil for persevering!! Molly was a master toilet roll shredder, but there were no Molly-induced holes in walls, fortunately. I am still laughing….
Great news that Nauset is feeling feisty :) Long may it continue

Thanks all, but it was not me. It must have been Honey directing me to Dasher/Rocky – it was her promoting good fate for a pup needing help. I really do think this – the timing and everything. So, thank you Honey, RIP, along with our other precious pups and kittens that have left us too soon. They are our little guardian angels, looking out for their fur kind (dogs and cats) that are in need. It was just ironic that I was posting all this as Lynda was posting about Honey.
Pay it forward, as much as possible, whenever possible. xo Linda
Hi Linda,
How is Sadie doing. Thank you so much for your note. Nauset is more tired than a pup her age should be but she goes crazy when I get home.
I love her and she is very needy. I wonder if it is because she had little attention before being a puppy making machine.
She is very loving and does not want to leave my side. Dunes would watch and get up when I was out of sight. I have to watch so I do not trip with Nauset.
Nauset is a great dog. I am glad I have her. It helps except at night when I look at a picture of Dunes.
I have an irrational feeling of guilt in putting Dunes to sleep. She so wanted to go home but was having a difficult time breathing and her kidney function was deteriorating. Still-I guess my guilt comes with fighting to keep her alive so ling. I don’t know how to shed that feeling.
Oh well, I know I must go on and I need Nauset as much as she needs me.
Take care,
joe
Dearest Joe – Sadie is great. Thanks for asking.
But you – oh, the guilt. I’ve been there and I can imagine your pain too. But Joe, you know, it has to be quality of life. If you would had prolonged Dune’s life, it would have been for you, not her. She was suffering and you didn’t, and still don’t, want that for Dunes or any other animal. Least of all, one you love so much.
I honestly feel in my heart that you did the only humane thing you could do. You just loved her so much and with that, now miss her so much. And it’s that pain of the ‘missing’ that is so unbearable. But you have to go on in knowing that you gave Dunes a wonderful life. No one else on this earth could have done that for Dunes, but you. No one. And you’re kindest, most gentle gift to her, was to let her go and not suffer any more.
I know Nauset will never replace Dunes and she’s not meant to replace her. But she, as Dunes, needs the love and the loyalty you are giving her. She’s following you because she has never in her life, known such love and devotion and she’s scared it will go away. You just keep loving her the way I know you do, and in time, I bet she’ll get better and better. She’ll know -Joe’s love is here to stay. You’ll see.
Sadie has always followed me everywhere too. It’s even worse now with the AIHA. Now, if she thinks I’m leaving and have not told her, “it’s okay” – she’s will slip out of anyone’s hold and bolt to me. I raised secure children and now I have this totally insecure dog. Geese! What’s with that?! So, I try to keep reassuring her – it’s okay – I may leave for a bit, but I’ll be back. Always, I’ll be back.
Hang in there Joe. It’s all you can do. Go forward and remember Dunes the way she would want you to remember her. She will always be in your heart.
Much love and huge hugs, Linda and Sadie
