Hi Susie
I’m so pleased to hear Emily is doing so well! 41!! We’ll take that :) I also like Vally’s idea of slowing down the reduction, to err on the side of caution.
Sorry to hear about the diarrhoea. Has it cleared up at all? I know lots of people here recommend giving a small amount of pumpkin in the food which seems to help lots of dogs. I also used to give my cats a little rice mixed in with their food if they had runny tummies. I hope she’s feeling better now.
Best wishes,
Mary and Mable x
Hi Susie,
Yes 41 is reason to celebrate! Is the diarrhea better today? I very much doubt it has to do with the discontinuing of the famoditine. As Mary said, pumpkin might help. I give just plain canned pumpkin, not the pie filling. My 50 lbs dogs get a heaping table spoon, so for Emily a teaspoon would be enough. If it does not clear up over the weekend you might want to see the vet. They could prescribe metronidazole which is an antibiotic targeting intestinal infections. I have also had some success giving a bit of plain yoghurt, kefir and a bit of fermented vegetables. All of these have lots of probiotics that get the healthy bacteria in the gut going.
I hope Emily is feeling better, sending best wishes,
Brigitte
Hi Ladies,
Well, so far so good today. No diarrhea at all. I took Vally’s counsel and cut back on her food today. I couldn’t fast her because she needs breakfast to be able to take the Prednisone.
Thanks for the great ideas with the pumpkin, yogurt or rice. I like natural approaches so much better, especially with all the drugs she’s been on. Hopefully, I won’t have to use anything and she’ll continue to be okay. She may have just eaten something that she shouldn’t have, which is the most likely the problem (that’s the story of her life!).
Right now we’re having a crazy thunderstorm. I got home a bit ago and took her out to go potty and then the thunder hit very hard! She ran into the house like cheetah speed! Hopefully this will pass soon so she doesn’t have to hold it. She’s hiding under pillows and blanket being very anxious. I think I need to start a new thread for this issue.
Thanks bunches!

Hi Susie, I am a fan of plain pumpkin,,, how ever my sisters little shih Tzu Kye had a very bad case of diarrhea Kye’s vet carries fruitables in office its pumpkin but for digestive supplement also… not sur what all is in it but she said only one time helped Kye and now she swears by it you only give just a little bit of that with the food… and she said it did better than the goat yogurt and plain pumpkin. I do not know first hand as I have never used it myself.maybe someone here might know or have used this product…. I just know about from my sister.she said it works quick and it supports the gi tract. NOW! WOW! 41% that is so wonderful so happy for your baby and you… Emily is such a doll. I love my sister’s boy Kye he just loves aunt lynn which makes me so happy every visit.Shih Tzu’s are love bugs…. so humble and sweet and dear.Mr. Kye is getting up in years now but still very playful. And, Kye is so jealous of my Hayley he wants aunt lynn to himself… ha!hope you get Emily’s tummy straight . lynn& hayley
Lynn,
Thanks for that information.
Is it possible to see a picture of Hayley and Kye? I’d love to see them both!
Yes, Shih Tzus are very precious little ones. We’re addicted to them.

Susie,
It looks like YOU have a severe case of MSTS, Multiple Shih Tzu Syndrom. I totally understand the condition since I suffer greatly from MPS Multiple Poodle Syndrom.
We have a heat wave up here on Vancouver Island as well. I take the poodles to the lake as much as I can, they love swimming there, jump in and can’t get enough. I bought them a kiddie pool for the yard, thinking they would splash in there, but so far no luck, they just tip toe around in it and I had to lure them in with cheese…. Sometimes I wish they could talk!

Brigitte,
Yes! MSTS.That’s what I have! Maybe we should have bumper stickers made 😀 I think there are a few of us who’ve become hooked on a particular breed. We know what we like❤️
