- Rescue dog with imha in need of a home
Rookie is a 9 year old Miniature Schnauzer who was found as a stray. While in a shelter he was diagnosed with IMHA – Immune Mediated Hemalytic Anemia – on bloodwork which is obviously a difficult disease to treat as you all know, but he was actually not showing symptoms so my mother took him on as a project to medically work up. He miraculously has gotten better on his own with no treatment. We were wondering if this group could help him find a home. We can provide his complete medical history. He has been neutered, is up to date on all vaccines, and received a dental cleaning. He is a love bug once he knows you and is quick to warm up. He can be dog selective as can some of my mother’s dogs (she takes on hospice dogs) and so we are concerned about him living in the home long term. For 9 years old, he has plenty of spunk and I think would love to still go for walks and be a companion for someone. He very quickly became a staff favorite which is why we wanted to pursue treatment for him. Please contact me with any ideas or interest in him.
Hi Alana
I am assuming you are in the USA? I’m sorry I can’t help you directly with this as I live in France. He sounds like a lovely little chap though! In our experience, IMHA does not just get better “on it’s own”, so this is an interesting story. We have had people with dogs who had just got anaemia, rather than the immune mediated variety. Maybe the cause of the anaemia was somehow eliminated with treatment? I can only guess, but I’m really glad he’s fine now. I hope you can find him a home very soon.
Hi Alana. I am so sorry about this little flea. It’s a stinking, horrible disease. Where is Rockie?
You are a good person to have posted for him. So glad you found us, although sorry Mr. Rockie has to have gone through all this.
Warmest regards, Linda
We are located in massachusetts. If anyone has any options for him please let me know. Thank you so much for your kind thoughts.
