- My German Shepherd just diagnosed with AIHA, help!
Thanks to everyone who has encouraged me and Kiki about this terrible, terrible disease. The walking and mobility issues are very severe, but we are managing. It breaks my heart to see my dog, who only last month was running wild and free, to be reduced to laying limp on the ground. This is so terrible! I just know he is miserable. I am helping him stand up when he needs to go outside and potty, and I am lifting him down the stairs (80 pounds!).
How can I post a picture of him? I’d like to share him! :)
Finally, our vet said that he has contacted the drug manufacturer of the Parvo live virus vaccine and supposedly there is a guarantee associated with the vaccine. I expect nothing will come of it. And certainly nothing the drug company can do can “undo” the harm and damage already done. Our vet has been really awesome to work with, and I appreciate him trying to help. I just want my dog back though!
Wishing you all a great week ahead, and lots of cuddles and kisses from your dogs!
Desiree
Hey Desiree,
So glad each one of us here at S. Chances has been an encouragement. This is a horrible disease to say the least and it’s heart wrenching to see our beloved pets (children) go through this. 80lbs is a lot .. My last dog Maggie was 95lbs (a large golden retriever) she got cancer and I did the same thing with her carried her up and down stairs. I don’t even know how I managed but the strength came from somewhere . It just sort of kicks in for us all when we know they need our help. Kiki will get better in time ..
Over to the right side of the page there is a section that say “Upload your Photo” below it a “Browse” button click on “Browse” then choose the photo from your “My Pictures” on your computer where you have them saved. Then click “Open” at the bottom of the “My Pictures pop up when you’re done choosing the photo. In the white box where it says “Give your Photo a Title” write what you want to say about it. Then click on the “Upload your photo for approval” button below it and it will slowly upload to the site. Vally will get it and post it here on your thread.

Tonight my precious Kiki passed away. I’m still in shock and disbelief, and angry. His last 4 blood tests were all so very positive, each time his WBC was lowering, and each time his RBC was raising, and his HCT was climbing, and was nearly at 30. And tonight I lost him, suddenly. I was believing and hoping that he would make a full recovery. And he very nearly did. Just two days ago he was back to running again. He was playing with the kids again. I had my Kiki back from near death. Only to lose him today. It’s hard to fathom. It’s such a cruel turn of events. But at least I was with him till the very end.
We only found out today, almost after the fact, that Kiki had a tumor the size of his heart, right next to his heart. Somehow in the x-rays and all the examinations that we had done previously, they missed it. I don’t know how that is possible. I don’t even know how long he had the tumor. I had no idea. But this afternoon he started panting a lot again. He seemed out of breath. Just all of a sudden. We immediately took him to the vet. He had a temperature of 105. We took him to a specialist at a nearby animal emergency hospital. That is where they found the tumor, and that is where my brave Kiki finally surrendered. I just don’t understand how this all happened.
I wanted to thank you all for the incredible advice you have given, and the love and support I felt. You all are awesome, special. You helped me and Kiki almost beat it. Thank you so much. If not for the tumor, I just know we would have beaten it, and he would still be here. Wishing you all the very best.

Desiree, I’m devastated for you. Cancer is a complete pig of a disease & often we have no idea they have it until severe symptoms like breathlessness happen all of a sudden. Sometimes, it is not possible to find it until it’s too late – there really was nothing you could have done, sweet lady. I lost my non-IMHA dog last August to cancer – very suddenly – & it broke my heart completely.
I am so very, very sorry this happened to you. Beautiful Kiki put up a huge fight & is now at peace, likely playing with my Ollie at the Rainbow Bridge. I hope you’ll have a look at The Bridge page

when you feel like it. It is comforting those of us who have lost a precious baby.
Sending much love, many tears for Kiki & huge comforting hugs for you

Oh Desiree .. my heart is breaking for you all ! I know you and your family are just heart broken. So many of us gals here at SCAD are dog lovers and have lost a few of our beloved pets from illness to old age. In that we know the pain of the loss of our four legged family members . And we have experienced the emotions of Anger to great anguish and can relate. I lost my 13.5 yr old golden to cancer and 6 months later my 17 yr old golden to old age. My heart grieved greatly and then Flossie came along and filled it back up with Joy and Love. Sending prayers of comfort your way.
with my deepest sympathy

Oh Desiree, I’m so very very sorry. I’m sure you are at a total loss right now. It s0 very similar to what happened to Bingo just last month.
You’ll grieve, and there’s no escaping that, but your grief is a sign of your great love for Kiki. There’s a big hole in your heart right now.
Be consoled though and remember that Kiki has the very very best of care and love and never ever doubted that.
When you’re ready, please do go to the Bridge page, it is beautifully written and, I promise, will help.
Yes, there are a few of them at the Rainbow Bridge, no doubt, causing havoc, running around a lot and having a lot of fun AND they’re all they’re waiting for us.
Lots of love,
Vally
Desiree I am so very sorry to hear this! I know Kiki was so loved and had a wonderful life with you. I’m not sure their time here with us is ever long enough. I know you are grieving and there is a big whole in your heart right now, but we are all thinking of you and your family. I’m so glad you could give Kiki such a wonderful life here on earth.
Lots of love,
Erin&Murphy
