- Milo diagnosed with IMHA 9 days ago.
It has been a while since I posted, so I wanted to send in an update on Milo. It has been a very rough road!! he had continued to have vomiting and diarrhea and no appetite and so my husband had taken him in to the emergency vet on Monday August 14th. The emergency vet (one we had never seen before) basically said they did not know what was causing the GI upset, there was really nothing else they could do other than refer to a GI doc and that would be a minimum of $2000 (on top of the 7-8 thousand we had already spent!!). She stated none of the meds he was on should cause the symptoms we were seeing and it would be cruel to keep going. I was traveling for work and so was out of town. My husband called me very upset, unsure what to do. I told him to take him back to OUR vet and if she said to put him down then that was what we needed to do. Our vet said to leave him with her for a few days and she would see what she could do. She kept him all week, took him off of all of his meds except for the prednisone, which she gave IV, and gave him subq fluids for a couple of days. After that she started force feeding him…small amounts…some he would hold down and some he wouldn’t. My husband picked him up on Friday (and our vet didn’t charge us anything!!) over the weekend he ate a little and threw up once. I got home on Monday and Tuesday he came up to me while I was working at my desk and laid his head on my leg and looked up at me with a look in his eyes that said FEED ME!!!! He has not stopped eating since!! I was feeding him 4-5 times a day for a while. I took him to the vet yesterday and he has gained back the 20 lbs he lost and his crit was up to 44!! We are reducing his prednisone dosage. I know that with this disease we have to take it one day at a time, but there is hope! I know he could relapse and be taken from us at any point, but for right now I have one very hungry spoiled dog on my hands and I love it!!
Oh Kisha, you’ve made my day. I’ll bet you’re over the moon right now.
What can I say. Your vet is just the best!!! Not just because of the no charge thing. I would have paid anything for Bingo, and now for Saba, but it’s the heart of your vet that’s showing. And what a generous kind heart she has.
I’m so so happy that Milo is feeling so much better and being spoiled rotten.
My best,
Vally (angel Bingo) and Saba.
