financial assistance links?

Hi there,

As my dog Ernie continues to fight (for those following, his plasmacentesis seems to have helped, and his PCV is at 30 and bilirubin down to 20 — waiting to hear if it continues to hold) I am doing research on possible funding options. We are already paying on a credit card I just received with 0% interest for 18 months, and plan on renting a room in our home on AirBnB (something we considered doing for “extra” cash that has now become necessary) but I thought I would see if anyone had any additional resources?

We are in a unique position in that we wouldn’t qualify based solely on income, but we have had multiple financial hardships over the past few years (including our house flooding in a nationally recognized disaster, our other dog racking up a $15K medical bill, and our daughter being born with Down syndrome and a complex congenital heart condition among other things). So I am specifically looking for links to any organizations that might offer grants, or possibly loans, to help someone not solely based on salary. Our salary may look generous, but by the time we pay for our daughter’s care and our continuing flood repair, things are very tight!

Lauren, good work on the 0% interest. That’s what I’ve done a few times. I’m in Australia, so not sure what organisations are out there, but it’s certainly worth checking.

GoFundMe seems popular, that may be worth a shot.

Hi Lauren

I set up a gofundme page for Louis, and linked it to his blog and my facebook, it was quite successful, it’s easy to set up, but you need to update it often as this sends notifications to people who have already donated.
The money is automatically transferred into your bank account after the first 8 days. There is a cost for this but that it taken out before it is transferred to your account.
