- Fatty deposits in a Standard Poodle
I re-posted this in a separate topic for Dorothy:
My 8 yr old standard poodle has many “faty deposits” under the skin. My vet checks 1 and made this diagnosis. She is very healthy otherwise. Should I start her on Bio-Algae Concentrates to see if they will reduce these deposits? Are the relatively safe for her?
Thank you.
Hi Dorothy,
My answer to your question is, it all depends. We do discourage people from using Bio-Algea in AIHA dogs. Not only is it not helping with the disease it could actually be harmful because it stimulates the immune system that is supposed to be suppressed. I am doubtful the product will help getting rid of fatty tissue (lipoma?) But if your dog is otherwise healthy I guess it would not hurt. (except your wallet:)) Does this growth in anyway restrict your dogs movement or is it just cosmetic? If your vet confirms it is just a fatty deposit I would not worry about it.
Best wishes,
Brigitte
Hi Dorothy, just as Brigitte said. I don’t think the Algae would do much either. We’re none of us fans of it here and it’s presented as the miracle cure-all but with no evidence to back it up. They only quote miraculous recoveries from their own tests. There is no reference to any proper testing of it done anywhere.
Bingo has tons of fatty tissue bumps all over him. If they’re not bothering your girl, I wouldn’t bother doing anything really.
Best wishes, Vally & another lumpy one, Bingo.
Hi Dorothy – our Max has several fatty lumps which have been checked and found to be of no concern…our vet did not recommend anything for them, and given that Max is battling IMHA, I would not give him anything he doesn’t have to be on, especially something that might stimulate his immune system…hope this helps you! :)
