- Enlarged pancreas & liver from long term meds
Hi, I was wondering if anyone here has experience with their babies having an enlarged liver and/or pancreas most likely due to long term, high doses of the immunosuppressant drugs and steroids. If so, how did you treat it or what did you do? I always gave & still do give milk thistle & Sam e.
Thanks

Hi Vally, she’s had an allergic reaction to a bee sting so I brought her to the vet in We’d. She was given a shot of Dextr… Some kind of steroid & pred. By Wednesday night something was off and she was not acting normal- bit eating regular & when she did she would vomit the entire meal, diarrhea, mopey. I thought it was a reaction to the shot of steroid or the bee sting but by sat when it was the same I brought her back to the vet. They did a CBC, stool float, stain, X-rays, a mean a ton but everything came back normal. She’s had an enlarged pancreas & liver for awhile now so I was wondering if these things are causing her illness. Vet tested for pancreatitis but it’s not. We’re stumped!
Hi Jen
Thinking on the positive side, it’s lovely to hear the tests were all normal. Nice word, normal. It sounds like drug side effects as Vally says lots of our dogs seem to have this when they’ve had the drugs for a long, long time. Any chance you can send the results to us through the urgent advice? I wonder if it was dexamethasone they gave her – a fast acting immuno-suppressant.
How is she today?

They gave her sulcrafate & it cleared up in a few days. Her CBC came back normal too. I guess it was either a reaction to meds or bee sting.
Thanks for the help😃
