Dunes/Nauset

Hi Friends,

What we are doing here is so much better than what I see on Facebook.  I wish more would come here.

 

However, I did learn that Mycophenolate elevates the liver which was one of Dunes’ major issues.  Atopica, after 5 years, destroyed the bone marrow as did the Immuran.  I keep thinking if I had only known that.

 

Time does not heal.  As Rose Kennedy said “it only covers up and can be opened up again.”  Well mine has not covered up.

 

For Christmas, I had a photo of Dunes turned into a watercolor through my phone app.  I had it framed with her paw print.  In betweek the watercolor and the plaster paw print is a plaques that reads  “DUNES”  The Wonder Dog.  That is what the vet named her.  I am close to tears as I write this.

Nauset is such a sweet dog and never leaves my side for long.  I have heard her bark at least 3 times now.  She does have heart worms and had the first of three injections on the 6th.  Next month she will be hospitalized and given an injection one day and one the day after.  She is allowed NO exercise.  We do let her walk when we are home and take her out with a leash to prevent running.  She now weights 58 lbs. which is perfect.  We are allowed to take her up the stairs once per day on a leash.  I do this at bedtime to restrict her running.  Coming down in the morning is more difficult.

The vet seems to think she will make it but would not guarantee it, of course.  She is anemic and we hope it is the heart worms.

So that’s all here.

 

I see some things on the Facebook AIHA that concern me about treatment.  For example, a dog getting repeated transfusion when the HCT is 25.  If I recall correctly, the owner was considering euthanasia because of the cost.

 

Oh well.  I sometimes think people on Facebook just talk at people and never really interact.

My dear friend – you have me crying too over Dunes.  You are just the kindest person & I’m so very happy Nauset is under your loving care, getting such wonderful treatment.  You know how much passion I have for rescue dogs & their plight. No dog can ever be replaced, Joe – we love them for their individual personalities – Dunes will always be that special girl who battled more than any prize fighter.

I personally hate Facebook & the like, full of loads of mis-information, irrelevant waffle and no real guidance. I’m sure many will disagree – Facebook probably has it’s place, but not in my world at the moment. My husband calls it SadBook!!!! I hope people will find us here when they need our help, so maybe it will have a use in that respect.  I know someone is going to be our Facebook “front of house”. The more people we can tell about this site, the more GOOD information we can get across. Importantly we need to be seen on search engines such as Google, Internet explorer, Yahoo etc as Patrice has said.  This WILL happen.

I am glad we can all communicate again properly.  We need each other.

Joe, Dunes was one of the special ones.  They are all special in their own way, but some of them just take a bigger chunk of our heart.

I’m glad the vet seems hopeful for Nauset. I so love her name.  What would have happened to her without you to care for her.

Joe, I love what you have done with the watercolour of Dunes and her paw print. All my family and friends know of Dunes and still ask after you, you are both so special,. She will never be forgotten.

And your dedication to Nauset is beautiful, she is so lucky to have you fighting her corner.

when I read your post, this quote came to mind:

You have the most generous and loving heart! Dunes will always be with you, will be part of who you are. Nauset is so lucky to have you and she too will expand your heart even more.

Joe – I have been out of town and tried to post from my iPhone but for some reason, could not. I now on my iPad and able to post.

I think of you often, your Dunes, your Nauset. All the posts here are so true. That you have opened your heart up again is incredible and Nauset will help you heal. Dunes will always live on in your heart too. Always. That’s the loving, unselfish person you are. Dunes knew that and so does Nauset.

We will do great things here on this – “our” forum. We are family, like no other. I don’t think I have cried so hard, as with I have with my friends here that have lost their beloved dogs. And then, I don’t think I have
laughed (out loud), alone, reading some of the antics (your Dunes included) our precious dogs have delivered.

This horrible disease has brought us all together through the love and devotion of our dogs. And you, my dear friend, are on the top of devotion and dedication. Hang in there. Nauset will, as Brigette said, expand your heart. And you know, Dunes would want that.

So glad to hear that Nauset is doing okay. She is the luckiest of dogs – she has you, your love, devotion and dedication.

When you’re able – your Dunes story would surely help others. You, Dunes and Nauset have certainly given me strength.
