- Dog w/Hermangio, Desperate for Answers
Hello Marcella. I am so very sorry for this. I know what you mean about the expenses. I started my SS early, so I could pay for Sadie’s expenses with AIHA. Fur baby health concerns are a crushing blow not only to your heart but also to your finances. Where are you located, what state?
There is a financial product that I use now that has at least helped, it’s a discount plan, not insurance. There are no exclusions for prior existing illnesses, due to that. BUT, your vet has to be part of the program. Just so happens that mine is, but I was not aware during the big bucks period of Sadie’s diagnosis of AIHA. It’s called PetAssure. I use it now and it saves me almost 25% of each line item procedure and even product.
Each vet is different – they can include, say, flea/tick (which Sadie will never be on again due to AIHA), heart worm meds, treats, food, etc., along with office visits, blood work and any and most procedures, including x-rays, teeth cleaning, etc. Would it be worth you calling around to see if there are vets there that accept it? Also, there is a listing on their website that lists vets by location and/or you can call them. If you like I can help research it for you. It may, may not be in your area, but worth a try. If you e-mail, you can e-mail me. Let me know and I’ll send my e-mail address.
I know this is emotionally and financially difficult for you and I am so sorry. I don’t know anything visceral hermangiosarcoma of the spleen, but apparently it http://www.caninecancer.com/Hemangiosarcoma.html seen often in dogs. I found this link:

I agree with all here saying that a specialist would be best. You can ask for the films already taken and TAKE THEM WITH YOU. Again, as with the blood work – you already paid for it – the results are yours. And, sometimes if you tell them your situation, they try to be gentler on the costs. Do you have a Vetinary school near you? They are typically less expensive, yet up on the latest and greatest medical knowledge.
If you need help researching, please let me know. I am sending huge, hugs to you and Emberlee,
Linda
Hi Marcella
How is Emberlee doing now? It is so difficult to see them so unwell, and I completely understand that it is also financially difficult. I think Sheena made a really good point about possibly trying diuretics to make her more comfortable. Would this be something you could discuss with your vet?
I just wanted to say how much I am thinking of you and Emberlee, and to send you our love and best wishes.
Mary and Mable x
Me too Marcella,
Just wanted to say thinking of you and Emberlee and lots of prayers for you.
My best regards,

Yes, me too. We are here for what ever it is you need, to support you. You have been though so much.
Please drop us a line when possible.
Much love and huge hugs,
Linda
Thank you, everyone for your kind thoughts and suggestions. I released my dear Emberlee Saturday, she told me she had just had enough, I could not really tell if the herbal remedies were helping, her ab kept getting larger and she was not eating and obviously was losing weight and got very weak. I could not put her through any more suffering. I hate hermangio with a passion, it sneaks upon us and short of a miracle or fast and pricey intervention/investigation it is almost impossible to have a good outcome. This is the third dog I have lost to this, having done rescue work for some 30 years, one was 9, one 11.5, and one 13, all females. I wonder if altering them could be a cause, those hormones promote health and well being in many ways.
Thank you again for your support, it has meant so much in this brief and hurtful time. I wish you healing for your beloved animals now and always.
Oh Marcella, I scrolled ever so slowly when I saw you had posted. Somehow, I knew you had had to make this painful decision.
I am so very sorry for the loss of your precious Emberlee. She had a wonderful life with a fur mom that loved her dearly. It especially touches my heart knowing Emberlee was a rescue. Without you, she most likely would have had no chance of the wonderful years she had. Being your fur child was such a gift for her and you.
It is the hardest of decisions, to let go. But you know, now her suffering is over and she is at peace. Please accept my most sincere condolences. Emberlee, I will always love her name.
Much love and huge hugs,
Linda
Dear Marcella
I’m so very sorry to read your sad news. It’s a devastating decision to have to make, and I am sure it is very painful for you at the moment. I lost my girl 4 months ago, and we all totally understand how difficult this time is. I believe that when you know and love an animal, you know when enough is enough, and I am certain that you made the kindest decision for your precious Emberlee.
If and when you feel like it, there is a page on this site called “The Bridge” (at the top right on the blue tabs) with some very moving writing by one of the members here.
I hope that you are able to take some small comfort in knowing that she is now at peace, and that in time, you will remember all the great times you had with her.
So much love to you,
Mary x
