Hope, Bingo was on the sucralfate for at least 18 months until we got him down to lower dose pred. The only problem with it was his funny look whenever I came towards him with he syringe of the stuff. Is your’s liquid or tablet? Here it had to be dissolved in a little water and syringed in.
Love Vally & Ever so gad I don’t need that yukky stuff any more.
Well he certainly didn’t want to go the Health Spa. No appreciation that boy. He looked so sad, I had to hold it together so I didn’t burst into tears.
Ha, the policy at the hospital is you pay 50% of the amount quoted for any treatment. They gave me the quote and I pulled out my credit card but they said, “No don’t worry, we’ll fix it up when you pick him up”. I guess they know my DNA by now. Ms Money bags!!!
The syncope episodes have continued, happening almost every night now, Tuesday night the worse where he was barking and carrying on and then just lost his legs and fell down, then popped up again, the other times are more tremors going through him. Since yesterday was my day off, I took him for a walk earlier than normal and then gave him a small meal (about a quarter of a 100g tin of dog food), and whilst I didn’t see anything happen before the meal, he seemed very tired and quiet all day. About 2 hours AFTER his dinner though, I saw a shudder go through him, which often is the start of it, but nothing further, so that has me thinking it’s not glucose, but the test will go ahead to rule it out anyway. He was a bit shocked this morning when he didn’t get his food. Instead he just got scooped up and taken to the car – to his TERROR!!! He knows that means THE VETS!!!! What happened to the DAY SPA and the MANICURE!!!!
My theory now goes back to the pred reduction. There was no sign of this during the 3 weeks I upped his dose when he pretended to be lame – I think he just likes his happy pills too much. However, if the tests don’t show anything, the next step is to check his heart.
I’m going to ask to put his pred back up to at least what it was before the last reduction. There is absolutely nothing to the reduction, the difference between the two doses is 0.05mg, but I think the problem is he needs it daily. He doesn’t notice the 1 skip in 4 days, but skipping 2 days over 4, he feeling it – that’s my theory. There has always been a problem with trying to skip days.
I’ll let you all know what I hear.
Love Vally (and a very sad Bingo no doubt).
Bingo saw the specialist today.
He had seen the test results from the the local vets over the kidney issues and thought there was no need to worry about them, especially looking at the low creatinine result. Sheena, as you said, high creatinine results are usually the first indication of kidney disease. I mentioned I had suggested to the local vets that I would retest in a short while and he agrees that’s good. He said overall the results didn’t raise any alarms with him.
So that’s great.
I showed him the video of the “episode” the other night. By the way, I think he did a little stumble last night too, but it wasn’t obvious – I couldn’t say I was sure it happened. Nothing (so far) tonight and he’s already eaten.
He feels the reduction of the pred dose is just too low for it to be causing the problems with the adrenal glands, but then again, it is odd for there to have been no problem for the 3 weeks the dosage was put back up and it’s happened since it’s been lowered.
He thinks the things to check are his glucose levels (which tested on the low end of normal today), and the next thing would be his heart – although they’ve never heard anything abnormal with his heart.
So this Thursday he’s checking into (shhh he’s beside me) the DAY SPA (ie hospital) where he’ll get a massage, facial, manicure, pedicure etc (ie fasting glucose testing throughout the day). He’ll also skip his pred that day, even though he’s due to take a quarter tablet (the bigger dose) that morning, to push the testing even more.
If nothing shows there, the next step is he may wear a heart monitor for a few days, but he said they’re not terribly reliable.
I’ll let you know.
Love to all my friends.
Vally & pin cushion.
