- Worried Again. What's new?
Hiya Arianne
My goodness, I take Worzel straight to the vet if I’m worried about any little thing – you are not alone on that score because we’re all completely paranoid. This disease makes everything seem extra frightening.
I’m so happy Carsten’s PCV is still rising – great news which puts your mind at rest. Good to here the eyes were nothing to worry about after all, but you are right to get these things checked out in case it’s something important that needs treating. If in doubt, a Snap 4dx test is always a good idea.
Just got back from Worzel’s check up – his HCT was 68.5, which has cheered me up. That is normal for a greyhound believe or not – they have very high PCV/HCT naturally. I had been worried as he had a terrible tummy upset a while back- it had dropped to 55 which is bordering low for greyhounds, so I’m relieved it’s gone back up – see I worry too!
We have been keeping in close contact with Linda – Sadie is holding her own – she’s had two packed red cell transfusions & they have made her feel much better. She’s fighting off a nasty infection which has caused the relapse. Thank you for asking – I will tell her you’ve asked about Sadie.
So Arianne, you’re never going to stop worrying – I never have either!
Love Sheena xxxxx
Arianne,
Great to hear Carsten is feeling so chipper. The PCV going up is wonderful news…. Hayley was 7 years old when hit with IMHA now is 11 1/2 years old… nope we never stop worrying over everything and… yes! I check her gums daily many times… it changes us… for ever! And, take her to the vet for anything that seems not normal no matter how small it might seem to others with healthy fur children…sometimes the vet say’s I understand but everything is just fine… don’t keep Hayley in a bubble. We know our babies better than anyone even the vet… but yes we do worry.. safe than sorry… that’s my way. Lynn & Hayley
Hi Arianne
Wonderful to hear how well Carsten is doing! Yes, we all love ragamuffins, so no worries on the grooming front! I’m sorry you had the scare with his sclera, but it’s fine to get these things checked out and they turn out to be nothing – much better that way than the other. And yes, we are all platinum members of the paranoid pet owner’s club. I couldn’t tell you the things I’ve taken Mable to the vet for since we lost Molly. And sure, it’s kinda embarrassing, but I’d always rather err on the side of caution and feel a bit silly but know she’s ok. On the flip side, if was very vague little signs that made me take Molly in the first place when she turned out to have IMHA. So, carry on trusting your instincts, and if something seems wrong, get it checked out. It’s nothing to be ashamed of :)
Anyway, again, it’s so good to hear how well your Carsten is getting on. I’m so happy for you and wish you well for the upcoming tapering medications. Slowly, slowly…
Much love
Mary and Mable x
It’s funny you know, when Bingo hurt his knee one night, I was waiting at the vet’s office before it opened the next morning. Sitting looking pathetic with Bingo on my lap. It was cold and the wind was blowing. Good start to a movie about the homeless, as I’m sure that’s what we looked like.
Anyway, last week, someone rang me about their puppy, saying it had jumped off the couch and had cried for almost a minute. There seemed to be a very slight limp on one back leg but she wasn’t sure about that, sometimes it seemed there, other times not at all. The puppy was eating, drinking, playing, jumping up and down off the couch without any issues. She asked if she should take the dog in to the vet or could it wait a day or so. I said probably wait a few days and see how the dog went. It may have sprained it’s back or leg, but it wasn’t showing any symptom of pain there was no need to rush down.
Vally – you hypocrite !!! & Bingo who said seeeeeee, we didn’t have to go to the vet that morning. All he got out of it was the sting of a needle.

Hi Arianne. I am so glad to read about Carsten’s great checkup. You’ve done an awesome job getting your it back on the wellness track. And yes, we are ALL super paranoid.
Thank you for asking about Sadie. I have tried to update this week – we’re maintaining a 22% PCV. It is taking her longer this time than her other two relapses, almost like the onset. But we’ll take holding and hopefully, she’ll start moving up soon
Congratulations too on your new position. You’re doing it all, and doing it well. Please give Carsten some belly rubs from me. If course, Sadie sends kisses (no two timing, Worzel, Ollie and Bingo, just friends, really).
Love, hugs, belly rubs and kisses,
Linda and Sadie
