Thanks for your opinion Mary. She doesn’t seem to be suffering any ill effects from the Prednisone …at all. She’s been acting happy and hyper. A lady at the vets office today thought she was a puppy. Her muscles in her legs feel thicker and she’s back to jumping up on whatever she can, even our bed which is 4 inches higher than our sofa. Superdog is back!!

Hi Susie. CONGRATULATIONS!!!! I do get the vet wanting to test once again though. Just to be sure. I think Sadie’s problems today, stem back to reducing too fast from onset. Remember, better to wait a bit than to start over at square one again. No one wants that. She is doing SO awesome and you are the greatest, getting her here. Way to go!!!!
Much love, Linda and Sadie
Hiya Susie & sweet superdog Emily
Fantastic news! Susie, you are doing such a great job & little miss sounds like she’s back to being a cheeky monkey. I love to hear that they are up to their old tricks & making a great recovery. She’s getting better & better all the time, thanks to you.
If the pred is not effecting her, there is no reason to rush the reduction at all – take it nice & steady. As Mary says, 25% is a good idea. If your vet wants to wait a while, that’s fine. Every 2-3 weeks minimum is the recommended way, but longer doesn’t hurt. I think you are being very sensible – you know me – I like cautious!

Hello Ladies!
Emily’s PCV is 48! Shes been at 2.5 (half a tablet) of prednisone once daily for one month. Today I gave her (1/4). I thought I would try to alternate between 1/2 and 1/4 tablet every other day, unless you can suggest a better way.
Thanks in advance!
Susie
Hi Susie!
I was wondering how you & Emily were doing -Fab news – I like the alternative day idea you’ve come up with, then go for a quarter every day, then a quarter every other day. I think the adrenal glands get back to normal better that way. See what everyone else says of course.

Hi Susie,
great news, that is a wonderful PCV! I like the tapering you are doing I assume you ran that by your vet. Some dogs need to stay on a small prednisone dose for the rest of their life to avoid a relapse. Of course everybody would like their dog off drugs but I think it is the lesser of the two evils. I honestly don’t know if there is a scientific way to tell if this is necessary. This is why it is always good to check with your vet before decreasing.
Best wishes,
Brigitte
