- Sadie -Atopica weaning
Linda, I know the Atopica worries you because of the poos. There is the test to determine how much Atopica is in the blood and it may very well be that the amount is so minute, in which case it could probably be dropped at this point. I think the test is fairly expensive though.
I think, since Sadie is still taking the prednisone, it would be fairly safe to drop the Atopica.
Ultra ultra parranoid Vally would probably go to every 4 days for a couple of weeks, then every 5 days for a couple of weeks etc. When we get to the 1 a week mark, surely it’s safe to drop it.
Love Vally & Bingo.
Ha! Thanks all. I read your post last night on my phone, but couldn’t respond (can post from phone, it’s off and on -who knows). I thank you all for your input.
I think I will go every four days like you say Vally. And then every five days. That, actually, was the original plan, but it just seems to mess her up so badly.
I’ll also check with the vet to see the cost of testing for amount of cyclosporine in her system. But I still think, sticking with the original plan will be better – we’ll see.
Discontinuing the Atopica (cyclosporine, for those new here) is really not because of the soft stools any more. It’s her overall look and demeanor. About a month ago, I started using Honest Kitchen’s Perfect Form (not near as much as they recommend though, Sadie’s so sensitive) and that helps tremendously. It’s the ONLY thing that has. I don’t use it daily – only when needed. It certainly does the trick. The pumpkin and all the other “remedies” don’t work for Sadie – as a matter of fact, make it worse. Go figure. I have to be really careful with pro-biotics too – she can’t handle that either. Another of Honest Kitchen’s products, Bloom, has pro-biotics – can’t use it. You do NOT want to be in the same room with her after administering. ;)
Again, good luck with Bingo Vally AND good luck with Worzel Sheena.
Love to all, Linda and Sadie
