- My 13 yr old just diagnosed
Terri, I’ve been through Bingo’s notes. When he was discharged in November 2011, he was on the following antibiotics (6.6kg/14.5 pounds at the time)-
Enrofloxacin 50mg – 1 tablet daily – looks like he was on this for about 4 weeks.
Doxycycline 150mg – half tablet every 12 hours – This also looks as though given for about 4 weeks.
He was also on Prednisolone 10mg twice a day, Omeprazole, and Levothyroxine.
When Bingo ended up back in hospital the next time (February 2012) he was released with no extra medication, other than an increase in his prednisolone to 5mg daily again. We had been trying to wean at this point and he was getting 5mg pednisolone every 2nd day.

Koda seems to be responding to the prednisone dose given. 15 BID. I’m going to talk to vet regarding getting him on another antibiotic if his WBC is still high. Just because.
I’ve noticed that relapses aren’t hit nearly as aggressively as the initial illness.
You know Terri, that seems to be true about the aggression of medication on the relapses – with Sadie, anyway. Sadie’s 1st relapse, we went back to square one and I don’t think it was necessary, – it took forever again to wean and she really had BAD atrophy AND problems. This 2nd relapse, we just did 1/2 the prednisone (20mg instead of 40mg daily) and no cyclosporine (Atopica) – she bounced back well anyway. We did put her on an antibiotic, but that was because we thought it might have been caused by a tick. That test was negative, but we continued with the antibiotic and she’s doing well. Last PCV was 46 – for Sadie that’s great! :)
Is this a relapse for Koda? I need to go through your posts carefully again and read everything. I’m visual, so I write it down and put it in a form (only) I understand. ;)
Keep up the GREAT work you and Koda are doing! Sending our love, Linda and Sadie
Terri, yes I also agree. I know it happened twice with Bingo. Whilst he was started at 10mg twice a day, we ended up going down to 2.5 every second day when he relapsed. At that point he went back to 5mg twice a day. Again the next time we were again down to (I think) 2.5 every second day, but went back up to 5mg once a day.

This is Koda’s first incident. His HTC is rising weekly on his low dose. Would that indicate something? Dr. M sounds so convincing and trustworthy while I’m there. Now I’m having doubts sgain. It makes more sense that it would be inflammatory. Like a degenerative joint thing. I guess I won’t rest easy until those WBCs come down. Seems like doxy would be the likely choice for abx.
