My Dog Has IMHA

My 3 yr old Great Dane girl Zetta was diagnosed 2 weeks ago with IMHA. Hospitalized 2 days later and had had 4 blood transfusions since. Her PCV red blood count dropped to 14 and she was transferred to another vet hospital where they have done 2 plasmapharesis treatments where they filter the bad anti bodies out of her blood . She now has a kidney infection and is in critical condition taking medicine to fight off the infection while keeping her immune system from attacking her red blood cells.

Matthew, I’m so sorry that Zetta is so sick right now. Hopefully they can stabilise her and get the treatments working. Has she been in hospital the whole time? What medication is she on?

My girl Lilly lived with this awful disease for two and a half years after diagnosis,my vet was fantastic put her on steroids and said they had be be given the same time every day which I did religiously,unfortunately she was an old girl and we lost her in January if it was through IMHA or old age I will never know
