- Ashki is gone
Dear Brigitte,
I read your story and the Bridge when I first found this site, over a year ago, but haven’t read it again until now. Thank you for writing both of those pages, they are beautiful and so helpful.
Ashki’s end was incredibly similar to Kahlu’s, and I wonder if he had DIC, I’ll have to go look at symptoms. I don’t know what happened, only that after the transfusion he crashed within a matter of hours and was worse than when he was diagnosed. Our vet had moved about 45 minutes away and he could barely walk let alone get in the car, so I had a local mobile vet come to the house the following day to euthanize him. It was a very long night, I wish he didn’t have to suffer at all.
I’m so happy you have that memory of Kahlu swimming with you. I will always remember Ashki’s joy and love filled heart, always giving and smiling.
I think it was probably DIC. Thank you for that information, Brigitte. It’s helpful to have an idea of what happened. I can’t of course know for sure, but I think it’s likely.
Oh Tamara, I have cried with you since finding out. I was at the grocery store yesterday, and teared up. A lovely lady asked if I was okay – I said, ‘it is the grieving of a loved and lost dog’ and she hugged me. I send that special hug to you. Ashki was the most special. And he will always live in all our hearts. Always.
I look at Sadie and her four bouts with this horrible disease and I realize, on a daily basis, that Sadie could possibly not be here tomorrow. She’s not one of our pups that has bounced back and stayed stable. But she DOES seem to bounce back (even if this one took much more). And I know, everyday is a gift, you are so right.
Much, much love, Linda
Dear Tamara,
I’m so sorry to hear Ashki has passed. Please know my thoughts are with you! I hope all your wonderful memories together will ease your broken heart.
My deepest condolences!

Oh Tamara – I am soooo sorry to hear this. You fought so hard and loved Ashki so much. This is such a terrible terrible disease. No matter how hard we fight, with everything we’ve got, it wins way too many times, and takes our beloved furry friends. My heart goes out to you, Tamara; I know too well the pain you will be in right now. Ashki will be waiting for you at the Bridge – remember that. And I know he will remain in your heart forever, in those memories of breezes and sunsets.
with love

Hi Tamara,
I am new to this site and am so sorry I never got the chance to know Ashki during his/her life. Hearing how you fought for Ashki is inspiring and motivating for my fight for Dean. Ashki was so blessed to have you and vice versa.
Take care,
Amber & Dean
