Hi Vally,I just want to give you An update About Bobby. I don’t have any questions,But I want to tell my story. Maybe to help other owners. His pvc is still Good. But he had Some other problems. First he got a gastric ulcer. The vet came to us in the middle of the night because he kept throwing up. He got Some extra medicines for his stomach And this problem was solved after a couple of days. The gastric ulcer was caused by the medicines. Then he got a lot of skin rash. I went to two vets,But they did not know What it was. Bobby gets antibiotica. Because they tought it was a bacteriële skin infection. He gets sick of the antibiotica. His stomach hurts And he was sick again. The skin rash was getting more And more every day. So we went too the dermatologist. She did a biopt And next week we get the results. At the moment She Thinks it is: calcinosis cutis. It looks very bad. But it Will gets better when he does not get prednison anymore. But Maybe he has also event drug eruptions. That is more dangerous. We Will now that next week. Bobby gets 1 prednison tablet a day. He has still the full dosis atopica. Tuesday his blood Will be tested again. Hopefully we can drop the prednison again. It is really horrobile for Bobby that he gets all these symptoms. But he is a very brave And strong Dog. I really hope this struggle Will lead to a happy And healty life for the next years.

Hi Andrea, thank you for letting us know how Bobby is doing. It is common for ulcers and even for a dog to develop calcinosis cutis when on prednisone. What a wonderful vet you have to come to you in the night. That doesn’t happen in Australia absolutely. If there is an emergency, we have to take the dog or animal to an emergency veterinary hospital.

Hi Vally,Bobby his pvc is still Good. It went from 32 tot 34. So we stopped with the prednison. He only gets atopica. Since we quitte with the prednison he is more active. But he has diarrhea. He is feeling fine. But he has to go to the ‘toilet’ very often. I gave him Rice for About 24 hours. And he also gets ‘probiotics’ nothing seems to help. He has too pee a lot too (he also drinks a more). Could this be a normaal reaction when you stop with the prednison? The last dosis was 2,5mg every other day. The reduction of the prednison went very slow.

Andrea, the dose of 2.5mg every other day is quite low, but stopping it may be showing symptoms.

Did Bobby ever have trouble with his tummy before starting prednisone? Prednisone is used for all sorts of conditions and it’s possible it was treating that other conditoin as well. For example, Bingo had arthritis, when on prednisone, his arthritis symptoms were being treated by the prednisone and he showed no symptoms. When the dosage of predisone was cut down, his arthritis returned.

Pumpkin is very good for diarrhea, but make sure it’s just plain pumpkin (not the pie pumpkin that can be bought which contains sugar). It’s very good for both diarrhear and constipation. That might be better than the rice.
