Packed Cell Volume is measured by taking a small sample of blood and spinning it in a small glass tube at high speed to separate the RBC from the plasma. By holding the tube up to a chart they can measure the RBC as a percentage. Below 37-38% is considered anemia. If your dog has hemolytic anemia, the serum may be orange instead of pale yellow. PCV is similar to the hematocrit (HCT.)
