- Camilla says "BauHi!" to all her friends here
Hi from me&Camilla! Sorry for the long silence but we have been very busy with the move…as you may remember we changed home: from a small apartment to a little villa with garden. so i’ve been very busy with the boxes and she has been very busy guarding the garden :D as long as we lived in apartment camilla didn’t bark almost never. Now she barks at anyone or whatever is beyond the gate … but her favorite target is the neighbor’s cat…she really hates him! On March 31 we were to the hematologist for a control: her blood count is stable at the lower limits of normal range. she has cholesterol still a little altered so we made the analysis of the thyroid gland, which, however, is working perfectly! I do not know if this alteration of cholesterol can depend on the high doses of prednisone that she has taken for 4 months…i’m waiting for an answer from the hematologist. however she’s very well now, she is without meds since the 26 feb. every saturday we can, we bring her to swim and she likes a lot her new home. i’ll upload some pictures. and what about your furry friends?

Well, how lovely to hear from you & to hear Miss Camilla is doing really well. Yippeeee! I hope you are enjoying your wonderful new home – it sounds like Camilla is loving it – so nice to have a garden that they can play in.
Glad to hear you got her thyroid function checked & all is well – high cholesterol is often a sign of that! The cholesterol could be because of the drug side effects, but some breeds are predisposed to high cholesterol. If she had eaten before the blood test, it would be higher anyway – this is normal in any dog – called post-prandial cholesterolemia. It’s the least of the worries you have had lately! Just keep an eye on it – if it goes down, you will know it was the drugs – if it goes up & your vet is concerned, further tests are the way forward. I would definitely NOT feed her before the next test, so you can get a better idea of the true level – hope that helps!
Worzel had his check-up last week – he had a lovely greyhound HCT (like a PCV) of 63.5 – nice & normal – don’t we all just love normal on here after what we’ve been through. I still get really nervous every time he has a check-up (controle here) – I don’t think we ever get over the worry, do we? His creatinine was a bit higher than last time – nothing worrying yet, but getting near the high end of greyound normal- but I am taking him back in 6 weeks. I ordered some pee test strips to check it myself in the meantime. He is getting old (14 at least) so I can’t expect his kidneys to be perfect, but I want to catch any problems early – we all know how important that is.
So, really good news from Italy all round – keep in touch when you can – it’s always great to hear from you, but we understand you don’t have much spare time!
Love & HUGE hugs from all of us in France to all of you in Italy

Sheena hi! 14 years old worzel?!? WOOOW!!!!!!!! i wish him so many years yet and i wish that also camilla can live so long. i’m glad to hear that his analyzes are well. camilla never eats before doing the analysis, so the altered cholesterol doesn’t depend on the food, I don’t think, at least. however we’ll see how it goes at the next control. This Saturday will come from Spain Live, a golden retriever rescued by a Spanish Perrera. I helped the association who saved him to find him a family. at the beginning I wanted to adopt him, but the high cost of camilla’s therapies forced me to give up. the fact is that Live has had a mast cell tumor (level I) and if the cancer occurs again obviously he will have to be operated. He will arrive in Milan from Malaga and will be adopted by a surgeon doctor (woman) who lives in Bologna. about an hour and a half drive from my house so I can get to know him. I am very excited!!! when it was saved from the Perrera it was on the list for the euthanasia ( in spain, if a dog that comes into a Perrera is not adopted within a few days, is suppressed). he was called Live from volunteers who have released him and operated to remove the tumor. He has about 10 years and I hope he can live happily even several years with his new family …. in spite of his previous owner who wanted him dead!
Lovely photos, Eleonora – you both look so happy & pretty too!
What a happy ending for Live – that is such a sad story but we love happy endings. I cannot believe anyone could want their dog dead – they are not from the same planet as we are.
I am a member of SOS Galgos who rescue Spanish greyhounds – it is truly one of the most appalling things I have ever seen & read about. So cruel & sad – but SOS Galgos fight on their behalf & rehome as many as they can. A lady here in France (she is South African I think) has two beautiful rescue Galgos – they are much taller than Worzel & very, very nervous souls. It’s so nice that people like you help animals in need. Eleonora, you are such a lovely person for doing all you can. Hope you can get some photos of Live when you meet up & we can all see him too!
Love & huge hugs from us all

sheena oh, I know the situation of Galgos! the association that saved Live, saves dogs of all kinds from perreras, race and mestizos, but many of them are galgos. Spain for many things is a great nation, it has art and delicious food, the Spanish are wonderful people, but if we talk about dogs and “Corrida” …. I hope that things will change soon for the Spanish animals :( yes! if i can meet Live i’ll take a picture with him and i’ll upload it!
Too true – I have a very, very close Argentinian friend whose family originated from Spain – all her relatives over there find these things appalling. Her family are without exception wonderful & intelligent people, but there are others over there who are not. Ignorance is rife, that’s all. All our countries have terrible issues – nowhere is perfect. We can only try our best! Looking forward to the photos.
