- Seaweed is dangerous
Hi all
Just found out that seaweed is extremely dangerous to our dogs if eaten, especially if it is dry. It can swell up in the GI tract & cause a potentially fatal blockage, so please be careful if you take your dogs on the beach. Some seaweeds also have knotty parts which can also block the GI tract.
Here are some articles to look at:

We walk the beaches of the North Pacific a lot. There is usually lots of seaweed and Kelp, especially in the fall, when it dies down in the ocean. Luckily the poodles are not at all interested in it, how ever they are highly interested in all the dead fish, the Salmon that swims to the river mouths and then up the rivers to spawn and then die. They eat it if they are faster than me and Enzo just absolutely loves to roll in it, the stinkier the better! But I guess that keeps him away from the seaweed, the fish is better? I always think it is their daily ration of omega 3.
I used to feed the dogs a bit of dry seaweed/kelp daily. But then I learned (from Patrice) that there is lots of iodine in seaweed that could affect the dogs thyroid balance. So no more of that.
