- Miley Diagnosed With AIHA
Miley i s my dog. I am new to this group. I have had an enormous amount of stress over the past four month. I just attended the 5th funeral today. It has been extra hard dealing with so many losses and Miley being sick. Is there an people that I can speak to directly by phone to discuss Miley’s situation. It is hard for me to be online tying messages back and forth. I would really appreciate the live voice.

Hi to everyone reading this. Miley’s latest blood work showed an increase in her red blood cells and a decrease in her white, but her platelets dropped below normal. I am worried about that. I give her good food, like liver, beef, chicken, rice, carrots and beans. She still is eating her dry and wet dog food. She is hungry all the time. It’s hard getting the meds into her. She spits them out if she thinks they are in her food. I find it easiest if I wrap them in some lean turkey breast lunch meat. Do any of you have any recommendations about food she should be eating and how to get the meds into her? Also, what is making her platelets low? She was normal last week. This is so frustrating. I am trying everything to help her.
Lynn,
I would need to see the CBC to be sure, but I am pretty certain that this is a normal collection problem where the platelets “clump at the feather edge” in the smear on the slide. If you look somewhere on the bottom of the sheet you may see something like “platelets adequate.” Usually if the dog is healthy in all other ways or previous tests have shown them to be normal, they will view them under a microscope and make an educated guess that they are actually in normal numbers.
