- Split: Split: Split: Nula (5yr old English Cocker Spaniel)
Hi Linda and Mary. Activyl does an activyl plus which does ticks and fleas. My parent’s dogs are treated so hopefully she won’t get anything from them at least. The hedgehogs have had 2 babies! Nula had a groom today and she looks so different!! I don’t normally get her done this short, but thought she’d deal with the heat better and her shaved bits from the vets will blend in. Have attached photo :)
She’s doing really well. Apart from not quite knowing what to do with herself she’s pretty close to back to normal in behaviour! Hip investigative op tomorrow so have to leave her for a while but my partner is home and Vally’s chart will help him. So all good news! Hope you and your furry ones are all well. Xxxxxxx
Hi Ruth
Thank you for the heads up about Activyl, and congratulations to the local hedgehogs! I thought of you yesterday – I finally found canned pumpkin in Waitrose, with the tinned fruit. Hopefully you don’t need it now but wanted to let you know!
Will be thinking of you and sending lots of get well vibes for your operation tomorrow. It sounds like Nula is in great hands and will be fine, and I will look forward to seeing her smart new ‘do.
Mary & Mable x
Thank you ladies! Apologies for the lack of news. We’ve just been plodding on really. But, we were back to DWR today and great news!! Her PCV is up to 47!!! So another drop in her prednisolone and check again in a month ☺ And the BEST news….. She can go for short walks!! My clever girl!! So for a few days I’m going to do 10mg prednisolone in the am, and 5mg in the evening. Then we drop to 5mg in the am and again in the pm. Atopica is going to stay the same. I asked about immunity and they said when she’s due for a vaccination, they’ll test her antibodies first, and if they’re high then there’s no need to vaccinate that year. So that’s good too. And if she needs to go to kennels at all, they’ll test her antibodies and if ok, they’ll do me a letter for the kennels. Though, she’s not going to need that for a long time, it’s good to know it’s an option. So all good news! I hope you and your little ones are all doing well!! Xxxxxxxx
Hi Ruth
Great news! Well done Nula – 47 – you clever thing. Wishing you all the luck in the world with the reduction – I know you will see a big improvement when the pred is at a lower dose – slowly though, please! I hope you are feeling better too. Keep us posted & take good care of yourselves
Love Sheena & the boys xxxx
Hi Ruth. Rushing but had to write quickly – Nula is beautiful!!! So nice to see a spaniel WITH a tail!!! I hate that they cut spaniel’s tails here in the states. And to make matters worse, poor Sadie has only a nub. When she wags her nub, her whole rump shakes. It’s very cute though. :)
So glad to read that Nula’s doing so well. Will be keeping up, just for the most part, unable to post.
Love and hugs, Linda and Sadie
Hello All, I’m sorry it’s been a quiet few weeks. Rather a lot going on here, but got some really good news just now! Nula had a check up on Monday and the vets have just called. Nula’s PCV is up to 51! So up 4 points from last month. So another reduction in her Prednisolone from 5mg twice a day every day, to 5mg twice a day every other day. Keeping on the100mg Atopica every day and test again in a month. So pleased!!!! Xxxxxx
Yea Ruth!!!
I am so very happy for you! I am sure Nula feels so much better with her PCV up and prednisolone down:)
One suggestion, I don’t know what the others think, you are doing a 50% reduction which is on the high side from what I have learned so far. I think what I would do is 5mg one day, 2,5mg the other, for 2-3 weeks and then 2.5mg every day. Just a thought, I would be interested what the others and your vet thinks. I know that every vet has his/her protocol and some are pretty sure what they do is good and safe. I am not saying what you are doing is wrong, just throwing in some other ideas.
Celebrate! You and Nula have come such a long way! Congratulations,
Brigitte
